A Prayer for Jamaica

Bishop Rose has written a prayer for Jamaica, for those affected by hurricane Melissa.

Heavenly Father, we lift before you the people of Jamaica and other neighbouring countries of the Caribbean affected by hurricane Melissa. We pray for the families and friends here in the diaspora anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones and we remember those who have lost their lives in the hurricane’s rampage.

We remember and pray for those whose medical treatment have been impeded by the damage to hospitals and health clinics; for all those whose homes and businesses have been destroyed leaving them without roofs over their heads and incomes to support their families.

We remember the farmers whose crops have been destroyed and the implication of food shortages for the wider population. And we remember too those who are anxious about what the future holds for them.

Calm the storm, Lord. Surround every family and the communities who have come through this ordeal with your everlasting arms. Give wisdom to all with leadership responsibilities – locally and nationally as they work together for the common good. Give courage to those who are afraid and may they know you as their refuge and their strength in this time of trial.

We pray this in the Name of Jesus. Amen

The Rt Rev Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Bishop of Dover
