The Revd Bob Weldon

2 September 2025

We are aware of the sentencing of the Revd Bob Weldon and can confirm that he will not be returning to ministry in the Trinity Benefice and will be withdrawing permanently from public ministry. We are currently following the necessary HR and legal processes to formalise this decision.

This is a deeply sensitive matter, and our thoughts are first and foremost with the victim, whose care and support remains our primary concern.

The Diocese of Canterbury has robust safeguarding measures in place. Please contact our safeguarding team for advice if this has raised any concerns for you (Safeguarding - Diocese of Canterbury)

12 July 2025

The Revd Bob Weldon was suspended following an arrest in December 2024. He has therefore not been exercising any form of public ministry whilst the police have been carrying out their investigations.

Following an appearance in court on 8 July, we understand that he has pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault on a woman over 16 and is currently awaiting sentencing.

We remain committed to supporting everyone affected as we navigate the next steps and conclude internal church processes. We will share further information as we are able.

Pastoral care has been offered to all those concerned, and the Diocese has kept in close contact with Kent Police throughout.

The Diocese of Canterbury has robust safeguarding measures in place so if this raises any concerns for you, please contact our diocesan safeguarding team for advice (Safeguarding - Diocese of Canterbury).
